Welcome to the Maryland Health Insurance Plan (MHIP).

MHIP is a state and federally funded program that works just like an individual insurance plan. For nearly a decade, this plan has made a difference to individuals from all walks of life.

MHIP health insurance is available to Maryland residents who are unable to get the coverage they need due to a health condition, or those who have an automatic qualifying health condition. MHIP also welcomes individuals who have exhausted their employer-sponsored coverage and any right to continuation of that coverage. Under the two plans, MHIP Standard and MHIP Federal, there are many options to choose from. Applicants with low to moderate income may be eligible for reduced premiums and cost sharing through the MHIP+ or MHIP Federal+ options.

If you are looking at MHIP as your health care program, our MHIP members have access to both CareFirst BlueChoice HMO and CareFirst Blue Preferred PPO networks – the largest networks of providers and specialists in Maryland.
